think this is a great book that every teen should read。 It is so easy to read and the author seems engaged in our lives。 he shares stories about other teens going through the exact same things that we are。 the format of the book is fun and entertaining。 I feel like my life is better after reading this book。 I loved the cartoons and he is very relatable。 this has taught me many life lessons and has helped me get out of my bad toxic habits。

A book for some but not all。 At times, washed over, blanketed, romantasied from the adult perspective, but, as well, helpful and detailed in its advice。 [If you aren't interested in the details of my review, I've written an overview in the final paragraph。]This book, by no means, is a quick read and for a good reason。 If read as the book intends, for each chapter, the reader is asked to reflect and act upon the practices taught in each chapter。 Because of this, I found many different mentions wi A book for some but not all。 At times, washed over, blanketed, romantasied from the adult perspective, but, as well, helpful and detailed in its advice。 [If you aren't interested in the details of my review, I've written an overview in the final paragraph。]This book, by no means, is a quick read and for a good reason。 If read as the book intends, for each chapter, the reader is asked to reflect and act upon the practices taught in each chapter。 Because of this, I found many different mentions within the book to be helpful and something I've aimed to integrate and watch out for within my own daily practices during my time in highschool and for that, I give it the rating I did。 Mind you, there were many failings I will have to point out that can be quite aggravating, and skimmed over that discredits the hardships of many people that lacks the empathy many circumstances deserve。 It felt, at many points, the author presumed you could force yourself into positivity and place scrutiny on your actions。 In other words, from the teenage perspective, you can tell the "instructional advice" is coming from a an adult without the insight to properly give point towards what is mentioned。 But, with that mentioned, there is also a fair amount of advice that I can say is well described in its detailing。 It's rather "pick and choose" with the quality and length that each chapter goes into。 The only thing I would say that took the book from a 5 star rating to a 3 star rating, for me, was that the majority of the information within the book didn't always do a thorough job in explaining its points within every chapter。 If anything, as the book got closer to the end, it felt as though the book mentioned many topics and didn't give any suggestions or guiding tips for it and with whatever it did mention, is was rather skimmed over。 Because of this, I would've rathered those washed over points not even be mentioned at all。 For instance, eating disorders were mentioned and while I appreciate such a topic being given notice, it was given a small blurb of a paragraph with information that could've been searched with any quick Google search。 And this point goes for many different topics nearing the end that caused many 'eyerolled' moments of information that was assumed to be helpful but left a reader, like myself, rather amiss and aggravated。 As well, the fallout for a lot of the information pointed out throughout the entirety of the book can be described as idealistic and lacking perspective for the diversity of complications within the life circumstances that many teenagers face。 Due to this, it took me quite a long time to find the time to wish go finish the novel。 Especially since the input that you're often left with, throughout many topics/points made, give the viewpoint of an 'advice column' that lacks perspective。 Mind you, this doesn't go for every portion of the book, but enough that I wish more was added or left out upon teen reviewal。THAT SAID, there was information within the earlier portions of the book, from what I thought, that were well detailed and explained in a manner that truly caused a great deal of personal internal reflection。 The way the book was laid out with comics, poems, personal stories from prior readers, life examples, etc。 made it a rather refreshing read to your average novel。 I've taken some key points from reading this book and I'm thankful I got the chance to read it, but I do wish it had more information that I could say made it a "fantastically helpful read" for the amount of time and energy it took for me to wish to finish it。 The main takeaway I would regard for future readers, would be to be aware that the advice in its helpfulness varies in comparison to its filler/common knowledge。 Bottom line, you could benefit from reading this book and leaving with a few pointers that you could add to your own life, but don't assume that following this novel would be alike a 'life's guidebook'。 It, at times, lacks perspective to the challenges many teens are put up against and can be faulted for framing its advice through an idealistic lens。 So pick and choose what you wish but don't feel as if this will turn you into a "bettered teen。" Good luck and take care! 。。。more

Back in the 90’s, you probably read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R。 Covey。 The basic principles still apply today: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand then to be understood, synergize, sharpen the saw。 The teen version of the book is the perfect way to share these ideas with your high school students。

Positivity is great, but it's not the cure-all for any problems you have in life。Throughout the book, Covey (again, a white cishet male) forces his personal beliefs on us。 He preaches abstinence until marriage and doesn't even touch on birth control or safe sex。 Covey kind of strikes me as the type of guy who would slut shame a girl for having too many relationships or getting pregnant。 Don't get me wrong, teen pregnancy is not an ideal situation, but telling people to abstain from sex, not teaching them anything about it, and then being surprised when something goes wrong。。。 sounds like the kind of thing Covey does。 And it's not just this-he straight-up denies the existence of racism at one point, saying something like "the only thing that can hold you back is yourself。" as in, racism isn't a problem, just work hard and you'll be fine? What happens when I die because a doctor didn't believe me and told me I was a druggie when I said I was sick (there are actual stories about this floating all over the internet)? Or when I live in lifelong pain because people think that women are weak and therefore their pain should be ignored? I am not the only thing stopping me from achieving things。 I'm mostly just rambling at this point BUT-Sean Covey piggybacked off of his father's book ( The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People )。 His book has the same title, with。 on word changed。 It's basically a dumbed-down version of his father's book, and this man had THE AUDACITY to act all high and mighty as if he's the one who came up with this。 Sean Covey, I believe that you have never had to struggle a day in your life to have food, to have a home, or to be accepted for who you are。 You are unqualified to write a self-help book, especially because it wasn't even your own idea。 Have a nice day。 。。。more
